Ed, so good to hear from you! Been a while. What's new?

Hey Ernie, First time I've seen your blog. I love it! You need a sponsor.

Yeah Ernie! Yeah reaching out and giving back is the best advice when you are looking to get to the next stage. Totally agree. But, of course, I run a journalism charity, so I am biased. Nice to here from you, hope you are enjoying the new gig.

Hey all, Ernie again, posting at VizEds because I realized I hadn't done so in a while (despite the fact I hit up Apple's blog daily). Part of it is because I get really busy with my own site outside of work, ShortFormBlog. It's been a long fight...

Biography
You've probably heard of me. I've been floating around the SND and Visual Editors community in one way or another for about five years. And oooooh-weeee, I've been around the block.

Currently, I work on ShortFormBlog (http://shortformblog.com/), which you've probably heard of, as it's a kinda popular blog with the kids. I also work at Express, a free tab which you also might have heard of if you live in D.C.

But before that, I've had this career that featured a little bit of everything. The previous peak was at Link, this wonderful tabloid newspaper that the Virginian-Pilot put out back in the mid-to-late naughts to high community response (and unfortunately) near-profitability. It was easily the most advanced, forward-thinking newspaper I've ever been at. And it saddens me greatly to know that it's been gone for five months. Life's unfair sometimes, let me tell you.

Before that, I worked at Bluffton Today, also an experimental pub that focused on small-scale hyperlocal journalism, the kind that the news industry needs to focus on more.

Before that, I worked as a temp at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Before that, I got wonderful molding at Michigan State University, largely thanks to wonderful professors Cheryl Pell and Darcy Greene.

I like taking risks and thinking forward. Even as the peaks start to look like horizon in this newspaper industry, I think there's still many peaks to be found in journalism. And I'd like to think, like you guys, it's my job to find them.

Ugh, thanks for thinking of me. i've got planning skillz but think i'm a little too green still. wouldn't want to get in over my head, plus, so far, i'm cool with what i'm doing for now.

Thanks for your input. I love the description of your work attire. Link looks great, btw. Could you tell Brianne and David P. I say hello? I interned at the Pilot on the desk and originally applied at Link when I first was looking for a job - Unfortunately, I was a little too green at the time. Do you know Brian Cleveland?

Oh man ... that really sucks. The bright white pushed it to the next level to me. Either way it's still going to be a great product. :)

Ok ... so one of my co-workers went to Virginia recently and brought back examples of the Link and the Virginian Pilot. I held a Link in my hand for the first time and I have to say I was EXTREMELY impressed. The bright white paper adds so much! And truly, the entire paper looked like it belonged together, nothing stood out as disparate. NPD just doesn't do justice to somethings sometimes. Anyway ... I just had to share with you.
