Goodbye, Michael Jackson

I love to listen to music as I design. Do you? Right now, I'm listening to the Jackson 5's I want you back, The Love You Save, Got to Be There, and Ben. That is the way I want to remember Michael Jackson. A sweet, angel-voiced little boy that sang and danced with his brothers, who inspired me as I drew in my youth. I have such fond memories of listening to the top 40 radio as a kid and drawing. Later I loved watching Jackson's creative music videos as I learned graphic design.

Renew SND membership? And what are the other options?

With the shake-up at the Society for News Design, I'm sure many of you are thinking about whether or not you should renew your membership. I can not advise you if you should renew or not. SND has done a a lot of good things, the quick courses and workshops are great for beginners. But I have been giving renewing a lot of thought. The SndiesContinue

A round-up of ideas to save newspapers (or at least your career)

From PDN online: Multimedia journalists discover life after newspapers
"As layoffs continue to decimate newsrooms all over the country, a pressing question for staff photographers is, what is plan B when the pink slip comes? How do you translate your photojournalism skills into some other means of earning a living?"

Two from Mindy McAdams:… Continue

Soul of Athens 2009 Trailer

My friend Carrie Pratt produced the 2009 Soul of Athens Trailer. I can't wait to see this year's site. What is the Soul of Athens? It is Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication's award-winning online publication about Athens, Ohio and its surrounding areas. A team of more than 60 people is currently hard at work creating the 2009 installment.

UPDATE: The 2009 site launches June 1st, 2009. Until then Here's last y… Continue

The Museum of Forgotten Art Supplies

A colleague sent this to me today. We all had a good chuckle as we went down memory lane looking at it. Those under 30 may never have seen these rare artifacts from the time before the Macintosh. The rest of you will have fun remembering all this crazy stuff.

Oh my gosh, I do not miss cleaning clogged Rapi… Continue

Thanks Nancy! "Doubt was a team effort. Don & Meg did all the great reporting. John's animation and Chris' music rocked. It was a great project to work on.

Hello Desiree,
I am a print newspaper designer but I am back at school to study Interactive Communications (part time). I am interested in your multimedia group. I understand much of the basics of multimedia but am not producing that product at work right now. I work in New York. Are you originally from Fla.?
