Computer systems: What do you use?

We're in the middle of upgrading CCI at the Seattle P-I (verson 5.5.5 to 6.13.1, for those of you who are CCI knowledgable). I'm curious: What system do you have at your paper? What do you like and dislike about it? What do you do with it (writing, editing, page design, web, video)?

Martin Gee says the Merc is getting JazBox. Anyone know much about it? I've seen Harris's name attached to… Continue

Design contests

SND judging is going on this weekend (does it always snow in Syracuse for this event?). It's interesting to read the SND update blog on what's going on.

This contest is, of course, the pinnacle for our profession. It's always gratifying to win and flattering to know that other professionals thought your work was among the best of the year.

Like most journalism contests, this is another case of professionals judging each other. Sure, we liked… Continue

Hi , my name is Jude Knight and I am working in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Now I dont know how you would handle this situation. The Prime Minister is accused of raping a 36 year old policewoman at his residence. The DPP discontinued the case because of insufficient evidence but the lawyers for the complainant is seeking review at the high court. Now the name of the woman was released by her lawyers to media houses all over the Caribbean and her mother was actually involved at a press conference yesterday. Now I am being told that our reporter gave an undertaking that he wouldnt publish a photo of the mother. But she was there giving her side to the whole world. IS that ethical? Can someone please tell me what is usually done in cases like that? Because my boss is telling me that the reporter gave an undertaking to the people at the press conference that we wouldnt use the photo. Shouldnt get permission from the Editor first?

We're in the midst of our upgrade. Not pretty -- seems we (editorial), out IT folks and even CCI are stretched for time and resources. But I reckon that is the wave of the future in this business.

We should launch in late April or early May.

We're hanging in here, too. I'm glad I still have a job, but things have settled down on that front.
