I am the design director at the News & Record in Greensboro, N.C., and I've been at the paper for a little over 10 years. I was charged with leading the redesign of our paper, which debuted in April 2006, and it's something that I'm very grateful I had the opportunity to do. I'm just now starting to get my feet wet in multimedia production, so I'll be looking for any and all tips I can find here.

Hey, man. I get to High Point roughly every other weekend, but I'm off to Syracuse next week for an early holiday visit. My schedule is up in the air for most of December because we're short staffed and dealing with vacations on top of that. I may get back that way late in the month.
It's definitely been a long time since we hung out. I'll get in touch with you once I know when I'll be in town. Hope everything's going well with you. Take it easy.
Well, it could have been worse. They could have flat-out laid me off. At least I'm still employed.
It's a lesser job and a smaller paycheck. And, naturally, it's not fun for me -- especially since I've been in management so long and I have a relatively high profile, thanks to the speaking engagements and articles and the blog.
But I'm getting by.
Speaking of speaking: I'm appearing at the big N.C. Press Association thing next month. The morning of Feb. 28, to be precise. It's in Cary, not far from RDU airport. A joint venture between the NCPA and the Southeastern Newspaper Publishers Association.
So hey, if you have any visuals folks sitting around with nothing to do, send them to my show. I'll take all the friendly audience members I can get!
And tell Wooten I said hello. He and I worked together back in Raleigh, about a million years ago.
Actually, Ben, I've been out of the office for the past 2.5 weeks. I'll return to work Monday, Feb. 4. And I imagine it'll take me days to dig out from under all the e-mail!
You might want to send that message to Paul Nelson, our design director.
Um, you are aware that the Pilot eliminated my position, right?

I hope all is well there in G-Boro. Here's hoping you and I both don't wind up the property of Pat Robertson! :)
