Sounds great. When do you think you'll start?

Would you do anything for novices? I'm currently waiting on the OK for future training but it could take a while. A good introduction to Flash would be cool as a start. Cheers.

Alan, forgive my delayed message. I haven't been good about keeping updated in the VizEd Ning network. I'm actually not in Indy anymore. I was politely asked to leave The Star in December and everything has worked out wonderfully since then. I'm ...

'No reason why we need sub editors'

Former Daily Mirror editor and now media commentator, Roy Greenslade, goes straight for the jugular at a publishing industry conference.

For example:
"...journalists - who are now "highly educated" - could sub-edit their own stories after writing them."

"I produce copy that goes straight on screen - why can't anyone else do that? You can eliminate a whole structure."

Greenslade said some "creative" sub-editors - such as The Sun's headline writers - were indispensable. But others, he argued, c… Continue

Guardian's Weekend magazine redesign

From Mark Porter's blog:
The motivation for the redesign came from Weekend editor Merope Mills, who had worked with the old design for over a year and was ready to put her stamp on it. Her brief was for something clean and simple with lots of white space; most designers love getting a brief like that but in my experience editors rarely give them, so it was great fun for AD Maggie Murphy… Continue

Alan, forgive my delayed message. I haven't been good about keeping updated in the VizEd Ning network.

I'm actually not in Indy anymore. I was politely asked to leave The Star in December and everything has worked out wonderfully since then. I'm working at the Journalism School in Bloomington, Indiana (about an hour south of Indianapolis). I'm a graphic designer in their communications department and I also work at a fantastic winery here. A week ago I was admitted to graduate school (in Bloomington). For the next two year's I'll be getting my MS in Human Computer Interaction design (HCI) in the school of Informatics. It's everything I want to study and great timing to ride out the next two years.

Thanks for writing to me! How are you these days?
