SPORTS COPY EDITOR/PAGE DESIGNER -- The Daily Journal, a 35,000-circulation daily 50 minutes from downtown Chicago, is looking for a copy editor/page designer to fill a newly created position on the newspaper's sports staff. Family-owned since 1903, The Daily Journal is a thriving, successful company with plans to grow and move forward. In this era of downsizing, we're focused quality and training for the future in a great educational environment. The ideal candidate is independent, detail-oriented and can make our staff's sports content stand out both in print and on the Web with fresh ideas and a creative approach. Duties include editing content, writing headlines and designing pages for a staff that covers 24 high schools, two colleges and local professional events, such as Chicago Bears training camp in nearby Bourbonnais and NASCAR Sprint Cup races in Joliet. This position will also be responsible for helping coordinate the staff's online content. Requirements include proficiency in Quark and/or InDesign and knowledge of AP style.Hours are nights and weekends. Salary is negotiable.
