Even more interesting is their followup.

"That analysis, limited to the world of newspaper content in print and online, shows that as newspaper readers migrate from print to online sourcing of news, most of them are moving beyond the limited realm of newspaper web sites."

Print may still be king. Long live the king.
But it is becoming easier for people to
let their subscriptions lapse. Computer-
based news has it's consumer costs, but
the benefits are increasing daily. Readership
data can get jigged on sales measures but it
is hard to argue with electronic site-hit gathering
figures. I have noticed that Media Post has been
compiling some interesting metrics that I would
value over the results of a single Nielsen report.

Compare your own time reading this website, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, whatever, versus a print edition of a paper. I find it ten times easier to search the web for a story I want to read about then read it then and there or print it out on copy paper if I like it that much than to sift through an entire newspaper. I don't care about the sports section, for the most part the money section and most news past page 1. By switching to internet news I get only what I want and no trips to the recycling center. At the same time I don't bother going to the websites for the magazine subscriptions I get. Those are niche publications that mostly feature what I want to read about in the first place.

Print is king; Internet is gaining; none of it seems to generate enough profit.
